Monster Names Chaka Zulu as VP of Entertainment and Sports Marketing
Monster, the company behind Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, announced Thursday that music exec Chaka Zulu will be their new vice president of entertainment and sports marketing.
The newly created position is all part of an effort to reinforce the company’s roots in today’s music culture. Wednesday, it was announced that Swizz Beatz purchased a co-ownership stake in Monster, and joined to company’s advisory board. Zulu will work with Beatz, as well as “Head Monster” Noel Lee, the founder of the company.
“Everyone at Monster is thrilled that Chaka is joining our team,” Lee said. “We share with him a strong passion for both music and technological innovation, and for helping people get closer to all the entertainment they love. This is a major step forward for Monster, and it will help us make a much closer connection with fans all over the world who want to enjoy all their entertainment in a more meaningful and impactful way.”
Zulu is currently the manager of rapper and actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and is a co-founder of Disturbing Tha Peace, a record label under Universal Music Group and Island Def Jam Records.
“Monster’s innovation and creativity has always come from a place of true passion for music and for improving music experiences,” Zulu said. “I work with artists, producers and talent every day and Monster is consistent in creating new technologies that benefit the entire music industry. That’s why I’m glad to join Noel, Kevin [Noel's son] and Swizz Beatz to bring even more energy, lifestyle and culture to the Monster family.”
