More Italian films coming to RAI

ROME -- In one of the first major statements since the new directors of state broadcaster RAI took over last month, vice director Giancarlo Leone on Tuesday said that the three-network company plans to show more Italian films.

The statement came in response to questions about the broadcaster's plans from Giuseppe Giulietti, a member of parliament.

"It's fair to give (on-air) space to Italian films and young Italian screenwriters as the state has asked," Leone said, adding that a RAI network may dedicate a specific night of programming to Italian or European films each week.
