Moretti's faves get Locarno play
EmptyKen Loach's "Riff-Raff" and Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rain People" are among the films handpicked by Italian auteur Nanni Moretti for a sidebar at this month's Locarno Film Festival.
Organizers of the event, which runs Wednesday through Aug. 16, gave Moretti a free hand in selecting two sections.
The first section will feature the director's favorite films shown at Rome's Nuovo Sacher, the cinema he owns; the second will highlight films from the 1960s, when he was growing up.
Loach's "Riff-Raff" (1991) was the first film shown at the Nuovo Sacher. The second group includes 1969's "The Rain People" and Milos Forman's "The Loves of a Blonde" (1965). (partialdiff)
