Mosfilm launches online movie service

Classic Soviet-era films can be downloaded for $2 each

MOSCOW -- Russia's Mosfilm studio complex, which also owns the rights to a huge collection of classic Soviet-era movies, has launched an online video service.

Currently, 142 features can be watched online for 25 roubles ($1) or downloaded to a computer as a video file for 65 roubles ($2), and Mosfilm said that the offering is set to be expanded.

Meanwhile, according to the Russian business daily Kommersant, there are less than a dozen web resources in Russia that offer legitimate video content, while the majority of the population still prefer to download unlicensed material, including movies offered by Mosfilm, from torrent trackers.
