MPI inks DVD distribution deal with CRM

Agreement involves CRM's FilmBuff titles

MPI has struck a deal with Cinetic Rights Management to distribute the latter's FilmBuff titles on DVD.

To date, FilmBuff's titles have been released primarily via VOD and other digital platforms. The first scheduled release under the MPI agreement is "Collapse," a documentary about Los Angeles cop-turned-economist Michael Ruppert.

Set to hit store shelves June 15, it will carry a suggested retail price of $19.98.

"FilmBuff has been a key player in placing quality independent films into digital media and VOD," MPI chief Malik Ali said

FilmBuff sales executive Debra Fisher touted MPI's "long history of bringing entertaining and influential titles to the public."

MPI's pact with CRM is the second new distribution agreement this year for the Chicago-based indie, following an earlier deal with IFC Films.

"We are at a pretty dramatic growth phase at our company, both with original content and acquisitions," MPI vp business development and acquisitions Greg Newman said. "Independent suppliers do like to feel they are in business with someone who understands them, and we will be making several additional announcements in coming months."

Said Fisher, "FilmBuff titles will benefit from MPI's deep expertise in the DVD market and the opportunity to extend their reach to new audiences."

MPI's release labels include MPI Home Video, Dark Sky Films and WPA Film Library. The company also funds five to seven modestly budgeted original productions annually, partnering with Vitagraph Films on theatrical releases.
