The group was honored Sunday night with the Global Icon Award.

Green Day didn’t win the best live European Music Award on Sunday night, but the California band was still ready to bring its live show to the ceremony. Billie Joe Armstrong and company rocked out “Bang Bang,” bringing their latest lead single to life and proving that rock music isn’t gone from the award show scene just yet.

Introduced by host Bebe Rexha as the “biggest punk band in the world,” Green Day had some lofty expectations to live up to. But the group is used to gigs like the EMAs, and the trio made this performance count. The highlight from their new album Revolution Radio isn’t complex, but it’s the sort of fiery track that demands on-point appearances from all musicians on hand. Armstrong and Mike Dirnt traded off impassioned vocal takes and powerhouse guitar and bass lines, while drummer Tré Cool provided the driving percussion.

In the end, Green Day came out winning. Worldwide fans can catch more of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers when they tour behind Revolution Radio in 2017.
