MTV Movie Awards 2015: Shailene Woodley Wins Best Female Performance
The awards show is taking place Sunday at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, hosted by Amy Schumer.
Shailene Woodley won the MTV Movie Award for best female performance Sunday night.
The Fault in Our Stars actress beat out Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson for the golden popcorn.
Woodley's award was the first one handed out on Sunday night's show, with Furious 7 star Vin Diesel presenting her with the award. Diesel noted that the last time he was on the MTV Movie Awards stage, he was there with Paul Walker, aka "Pablo," and he thought it was appropriate that MTV introduced him with Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again," off the Furious 7 soundtrack, singing a few lines of the song, which serves as a tribute to Walker.
In her acceptance speech, Woodley thanked TFIOS author John Green for writing the book on which her film was based. She said he changed her life with his book.
"I feel like this award belongs to John Green," Woodley said. "He gave this world a beautiful masterpiece, a gift in The Fault in Our Stars. It changed my life when I read it and being a part of this film dramatically influenced who I am today. And his words will transcend time because they transcend any age. There's not one single demographic that will not be affected by the wisdom and the compassion and the beauty that he laces into every single thing in his life. So, John Green, beyond The Fault in Our Stars, I just want to thank you for being the human that you are and for every single day living a life with integrity and again compassion on your sleeve because you changed the lives of millions of people around the world. You changed mine."
Woodley later received the show's trailblazer award.
