Ex-MTV Networks CEO Judy McGrath Joining Amazon Board
The appointment comes as the tech giant beefs up its streaming-media offerings.
Amazon has elected to add former MTV Networks CEO Judy McGrath to its board of directors, effective Oct. 1.
McGrath was also appointed to the Leadership Development and Compensation Committee at Amazon, according to a Friday SEC filing, and she was granted 2,520 shares of stock over three years. On Friday, Amazon's shares were trading at $308 each.
McGrath ran MTV Networks for nearly seven years, from 2004-2011, after joining the cable channel when it first launched in 1981. For the past 13 months, she has been president of Astronauts Wanted *No Experience Necessary, her digital-entertainment joint venture with Sony Music.
Amazon launched a streaming music service called Prime Music earlier this year, and it said a week ago it will be spending $100 million on original content this quarter to beef up its Prime Instant Video Service, which competes with Netflix, Hulu and other streaming video services.
