MTV puts Suro in development as sr. vp series

MTV has named Maira Suro to the newly created position of senior vp series development, West Coast.

The move had been expected (HR 8/3).

Suro will lead new series development on all West Coast projects, manage the West Coast-based development staff and oversee scripted and reality projects originating from here. She will be based in MTV's Santa Monica office, reporting to senior vp series development Liz Gateley.

The move is part of MTV's new structure and creative direction — put into place earlier this year by executive vp series development Tony DiSanto — that is intended to streamline MTV's development process "to find innovative projects and allow for a more targeted and efficient pathway for series launches."

Before MTV, Suro was executive producer of USA Network's "The 4400" through Renegade 83, where she ran development, sales and production for scripted drama and comedy series. Before that, she was president of Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope Television.
