MTV Video Music Awards: Rebecca Black Dishes on Katy Perry (Video)
The “My Moment” singer also tells THR what fans can expect when her debut album drops this fall.
Rebecca Black joined the ranks of musical royalty as she walked down the black carpet for the very first time at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 28.
The YouTube phenom, who was recently featured in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” video, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her experience with Mrs. Russell Brand and what fans can expect from her upcoming debut album.
“She’s so sweet. And I mean, I’m not just saying that. I really mean that,” she said of Perry. “She’s so down to earth so when you speak to her you would just think she’s just a girl from California.”

When asked what makes Perry stand out in the world of pop music, Black suggested that switching it up is crucial to success.
“She’s pop but she’s controversial almost in a way, she changes it up a lot. I mean, even just look at her hair, there’s always something different with it,” she explained. “She finds that way to just step out of the box.”

Black herself will mix it up on her debut album, expected to be released around Halloween.
“I’m so excited for everyone to hear it,” she tells THR. “It really has a bit of everything on there. There’s a ballad, there’s a Latin kind of track, and there’s some upbeat dance stuff and some mid tempo. It’s just everything.”
