MTV VMAs to Be Held at Los Angeles' Staples Center
Last year's broadcast drew the network's biggest audience of all time with 12.4 million viewers.
MTV is making a new home for the Video Music Awards in 2012. The network announced Tuesday that this year’s ceremony, which airs live on September 6, is to be held at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles’ L.A. Live complex.

The 2011 ceremony drew the biggest audience in the network’s history with a total of 12.4 million viewers. Meanwhile, Beyonce’s pregnancy reveal made social media history when it spawned a record Twitter bump of almost 9,000 tweets per second.
According to a statement by facility Sr. Vice President & General Manager Lee Zeidman, “Staples Center is incredibly excited to have the opportunity to host the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. We look forward to continuing our relationship with our partners at MTV and hosting this one of kind music event here at L.A. Live.”
The 2012 Video Music Awards will be broadcast across MTV’s network of more than 60 channels, reaching more than 600 million households around the world, as well as through syndication. Additionally, its programming will reach the online community via MTV’s more than 200 digital media properties around the globe.
