MTV VMAs: Lady Gaga Continues Her Alter Ego Act for Britney Spears Tribute
Spears was honored with MTV's Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at Sunday night's show.
When Lady Gaga commits to a character, she really goes all out.
The singer, who opened Sunday night's Video Music Awards with a performance of her hit "You and I" as alter ego Jo Calderone, continued the gender-bending act to pay tribute to fellow pop star Britney Spears.
Spears, who received MTV's annual Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, seemed highly amused by her contemporary's Calderone act, frequently laughing as the camera turned to her.
For the tribute, a medley of Spears' most popular songs was performed by a mixture of adult and child dancers who were dressed in costume replicas of the singer's video outfits. The songs included, "Baby One More Time," "Oops!...I Did It Again," "(You Drive Me) Crazy," Toxic," "Circus," "Hold It Against Me," "I'm a Slave 4U" and her most recent hit "Till The World Ends."
After the dance number, Gaga-as-Jo demanded that the audience give Spears a standing ovation as she took the stage.
The singers then flirted with a reenactment of Spears' famous on-stage kiss with Madonna at the 2003 VMAs. But, before an actual kiss happened, the singer pulled away from Gaga saying "I've done that already."
Britney then briefly thanked her fans before immediately transitioning into a introduction of Beyonce's performance of her song "Love on Top."
