MTVu's 2013 Woodie Awards and Music Fest Set, New Contest Announced (Exclusive)
MTV and mtvU are searching for the best college band/artist to open the Woodies music fest during South by Southwest on March 14.
Plans for the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards and music festival are set.
This year's annual awards show and festival held by MTV's college network, mtvU, will return to Austin, Texas, for one day of performances from up-and-coming artists during South by Southwest Music Festival beginning at 2 p.m. CST on Thursday, March 14, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The ninth annual mtvU Woodie Awards will take place 8 p.m. CST that night.
On Sunday, March 17, MTV and mtvU will air a 30-minute Woodie Awards special at 8 p.m. EST/PST.
Nominees and performers will be announced at a later date.
Additionally, mtvU has announced a new contest searching for the best college band/artist to open the Woodies music festival in SXSW. Up to four nominees will be selected and profiled on MTV's official website, with the public voting for their favorite. The band/artist who receives the most votes will perform in Austin to kick off the Woodies festival.

The mtvU Woodie Awards, which recognize the best music as voted by college students, began in 2004 and has helped boost musical acts, including The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Muse, Gym Class Heroes, Lupe Fiasco, Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, Matt & Kim, Wiz Khalifa, Odd Future, MGK and Mac Miller.
During last year's Woodies music festival, Steve Aoki (pictured), fun., Santigold and A$AP Rocky were among the artists who performed.
Eric Conte, Amy Doyle and Gina Esposito are executive producers on the mtvU Woodie Awards. Joe Buoye is executive in charge of production and Tracy Hellerud is supervising producer.
