My Damn Channel Expands With Comedy Network, Appoints New Director
Bringing on Blip veteran Eric Mortensen, the multi-channel operation will now add acquired comedic content to its roster of original programming.
My Damn Channel announced Monday a new expansion and hire, timed to the launch of the My Damn Channel Comedy Network.
With a lengthy slate of comedic programming expected to join the brand, it marks the company's first push to add acquired content to its roster of original series and branded entertainment. Former Blip senior director Eric Mortensen joins in the newly created position of director of programming and acquisitions.
“For the past six years, we’ve worked with some of the best talent in the world, who will continue to be funded by our network, advertisers and the major media companies hiring us to produce breakthrough original comedy,” said founder and CEO Rob Barnett. “We’re investing in the team and the infrastructure to make the My Damn Channel Comedy Network the first choice for fans and the right choice for talent.”
In 2012, My Damn Channel bolstered its slate of originals with more than 30 new comedy series joining its comedy slate. The network has also seen a 300 percent increase in revenue, 268 percent increase in videos produced, 366 percent increase in YouTube subscribers, 550 percent increase in U.S. YouTube views and a 91 percent increase in total video views since 2011.
As a part of revenue-sharing plan, creators of acquired content sign a non-exclusive, one-year licensing and distribution agreement to showcase their programming on MyDamnChannel.com and on the company’s YouTube channels. The network is also accepting submissions for potential content on its website.
Talent from series such as Big Lake, Onion SportsDome, Archer, I Just Want My Pants Back and 30 Rock are among those involved in the hundreds of acquisitions coming to the network.
