My Morning Jacket, Grizzly Bear to Rock Times Square for CBGB Festival
Now in its second year, the music and film fest runs from Oct. 9-13.
My Morning Jacket, Grizzly Bear and The Wallflowers will perform in the heart of Times Square in New York City on Oct. 12 during a free event for the growing CBGB Music and Film Festival, now in its second year.
Over two dozen bands and artists will perform on five outdoor stages throughout the area, which will host other festival attractions including a record fair, a skateboard half-pipe, a pizza eating contest and something dubbed a "silent disco," along with other attractions.
According to organizers, the South Stage will feature Lisa Loeb, The Wallflowers, My Morning Jacket and a DJ set by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. Over on the North Stage, Grizzly Bear, The Divine Fits and more acts will perform. There will also be acoustic stages.
At the center of it all will be a food court cooking up lobster, tacos, burgers and hot dogs from local vendors.
Now in its second year, the CBGB Music and Film Festival (Oct. 9-13) aims to be New York's largest-ever showcase of music, film, art, social awareness, and workshops and conferences. This year organizers announced that some 500 artists will play in over 175 venues in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The event will also see roughly 125 speakers and 100 films for a total of 700 live events.
For the film festival, about 60 feature films and shorts will be screened, 25 of which are receiving world and U.S. premieres. CBGB, director Randall Miller's take on the story of Hilly Kristal and his club that birthed underground rock 'n' roll and punk, will open the festival at 8 p.m. on Oct. 8. Broadway Idiot, directed by Doug Hamilton, plays Oct. 10.
