MyLifeAsEva Creator to Star in YouTube Red Comedy 'Me and My Grandma'
Eva Gutowski based the series on her own relationship with her grandmother.
YouTube is adding to its scripted slate with a multi-generational buddy comedy starring MyLifeAsEva's Eva Gutowski.
Working title Me and My Grandma, the single-camera series will explore the adventures that a 21-year-old girl and her 60-something grandmother have together as they try to make it big in Hollywood. The six-episode series will debut on YouTube's subscription streaming service, Red, in 2017.
"As a child growing up, my grandma and I had so many great adventures together and I am grateful that she is still a big part of my life today," said Gutowski, who is fresh off ad-supported YouTube series How to Survive High School. "I am excited for viewers to experience all the laughs I have shared with her but in a longer-form, scripted series."
Me and My Grandma is being executive produced by SelectNext's Adam Wescott and Scott Fisher. How to Survive High School writer Annie Stamell has also joined the project, as has showrunner Jill Condon, a comedy veteran who most recently served as co-executive producer on Grounded for Life.
YouTube content chief Susanne Daniels announced the project onstage at the Google-owned streamer's event during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. It is one in a growing number of original projects that YouTube has picked up to stock Red with exclusive fare. The streamer is also working on a series adaptation of Step Up. YouTube also announced Friday the release of thriller The Thinning and a sequel to Lazer Team.
