MySpace inks Cingular access deal

MySpace has struck a deal with Cingular Wireless to provide mobile customers access to the social network's interactive tools, MySpace said Monday.

The deal is MySpace's largest mobile partnership to date and allows Cingular subscribers to edit MySpace profiles, view and add friends, post photos and blog entries and send and receive messages, among other capabilities.

"MySpace.com has a passionate community of users, many of whom use our site as their primary means of staying in touch with family and friends," MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe said. "We are thrilled to team with Cingular to enable their mobile users to experience the richest MySpace Mobile offering to date."

By texting MYSPACE to 386, Cingular users can get the application added to their phone for $2.99 per month, plus standard data usage charges.

"We think this will open up a new world of interaction and content for them to share via MySpace," Cingular Wireless chief marketing officer Marc Lefar said.

Cingular customers can still receive MySpace Mobile Alerts, which were introduced in March and serve to notify users via text message when they receive postings on their MySpace page.
