NARS and Phillip Lim Team Up on a Nail Polish Collab
"These colors are the essential 3.1 Phillip Lim colors," says the designer of the deep jewel tones and classic neutrals from the nine-piece lacquer collection.
NARS and Philip Lim have taken their seven-year relationship to the next level. After 14 seasons of runway collaboration, the cosmetics line and the contemporary American designer have partnered on what NARS describes as a "well-edited" nail wardrobe. Featuring nine polishes, the line taps into what Lim describes in a press release as "the essential 3.1 Phillip Lim colors."
"These are my colors. The colors that constantly inspire me, they are constantly threaded in everything I do. Every single shade or color has appeared in the collections for the whole history of the company. They are my go-to colors," he says of the collaboration, which incudes both deep jewel tones and classic neutrals in a glossy, long-lasting formula.
"I call them colors that exist in the shadows because in the daylight you see one color and at night you see something different; it also depends on what you wear," adds Lim. "They are very transitional, very adaptable. I like colors that you can actually discover."
Available online and in NARS boutiques now, and at Sephora and specialty department stores Aug. 1, limited-edition shades (priced at $20) such as the African violet-hued Crossroads — first spotted on Lim's fall/winter 2014 runway — and graphite-toned Wrong Turn not only complement the designer’s latest collection, but are what Lim sees as new standards to be worn year-round.
Says Lim: "I want this to be the color palette that [women] can always rely on because it works with everything they have. These colors are for all-seasons, all-time, anywhere, anyplace."
