Nat Geo nabs rights to 'Restrepo' doc

Film centers on U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan

National Geographic Channel has acquired exclusive global broadcast rights to a feature-length doc based on Sebastian Junger's latest book.

"Restrepo," from photojournalist Tim Hetherington and Junger ("The Perfect Storm"), revolves around U.S. troops stationed in one of the most dangerous outposts in Afghanistan.

The film has been selected to premiere at the opening night of Sundance. Theatrical rights are being shopped.

The 15-month tour of duty also provided the basis for Junger's upcoming book, "War." The movie will premiere in the fall on Nat Geo outlets worldwide.
