TORONTO -- The Banff World Media Festival on Tuesday said it will honor film, TV and Broadway veteran Nathan Lane with the prestigious Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award in June.

After Tony Award-winning turns in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Producers, Lane will follow Ricky Gervais, Tracey Ullman, Chuck Lorre, Martin Short and Craig Ferguson as earlier recipients of the Banff tribute.

The Ustinov Award recognizes an outstanding comedic contribution to the media industry.

"Nathan Lane is an incredibly beloved and accomplished comedic performer,” said Banff executive director Ferne Cohen in a statement.

Lane's big-screen credits include a breakout role in The Birdcage, and Emmy Award-nominated roles on Frasier, Mad About You, Modern Family and The Good Wife.

He will receive the honor at the annual Rockie Awards Gala on June 10, while also participating in a one-on-one interview at the Canadian Rockies industry retreat.

The Banff World Media Festival is set to run from June 8 to 11.
