Nathaniel Halpern to Write Detective Adventure 'Joe Petrosino' for Summit (Exclusive)
The real-life story is set against the rise of organized crime and the birth of forensic investigation in New York City at the beginning of the 20th century.
Nathaniel Halpern has signed on to pen the Sherlock Holmes-esque Joe Petrosino for Summit Entertainment.
Joe Petrosino is a real-life adventure story set against the rise of organized crime and the birth of forensic investigation in the explosive tinderbox of New York City at the beginning of the 20th century. Joe Petrosino engaged in a duel of wits and brawn with Don Vito Cascioferro, the first "Godfather" of New York, that riveted the country and inspired countless crime stories and novels.
Summit, a Lionsgate company, acquired the material in 2011 and attached Benicio Del Toro to star. Mullholland Falls scribe Pete Dexter penned a previous draft.
The project will be produced by Stefano Gallini-Durante via his Code 39 Films banner.
Halpern has had a busy month. He recently sold a spec, the female-centric revenge thriller Rose, to Focus Features. Robert Zemeckis' Imagemovers is producing that project.
Halpern is currently a writer on the new ABC drama series Resurrection. His credits include the feature Midnight at Noon, which nabbed a spot on the 2012 Black List, and the AMC series The Killing.
Jim Miller, Lionsgate's executive vp production and development, will oversee the project for the company.
Halpern is represented by CAA.
