NAB 2012: Avid Joins NBC's Olympics Team
The technology maker's gear will be deployed for the London Games coverage.
LAS VEGAS—Avid Technology will deploying its “most comprehensive system in the history of NBC Olympics” to support coverage of the London Games, the company revealed Wednesday at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show.
Marking NBC’s Olympics division’s and Avid's sixth consecutive Summer or Winter Games working together, the effort centers on Avid Interplay Media Asset Management (MAM) system. Installed as part of a system that includes technology from third party vendors Sony and Harmonic, the Interplay MAM will be used to create two simultaneous feeds for use in London and at NBC Olympics in New York, according to Avid.
“Ingesting media and metadata directly into Interplay MAM early in the process allows us to have assets immediately available for video production in London and, at the same time, for the users at 30 Rock,” said Darryl Jefferson, director of post production operations, NBC Olympics.
In New York, content coming from Interplay MAM is expected to be tapped by more than 40 users to create highlights for web distribution.
Gear at London’s International Broadcast Center (IBC) includes seven Avid Symphony and 26 Media Composer editing systems, connected to Avid ISIS shared storage and Avid Interplay.
