NBC Nabs Sarah Colonna's 'Life as I Blow It' Comedy
The project, based on the "Chelsea Lately" comic's upcoming book, comes as Chelsea Handler's adaptation readies for its series debut at the network.
NBC is getting into business with another Chelsea Lately talent.
The single-camera comedy project, based on stand up comic Sarah Colonna's upcoming book, Life As I Blow It: Tales of Love, Life & Sex...Not Necessarily in that Order, has landed at the network. Like the book, the project will follow Colonna and her life in the Midwest surrounded by eccentric friends and family whose opinions and actions know no boundaries.

Colonna will serve as a writer and executive producer on the project, alongside EPs Danielle Sanchez, Happy Madison's Doug Robinson and New Wave Entertainment's Abbey MacDonald, Michael Pelmont and Brian Volk Weiss. The effort will be produced by Adam Sandler's Happy Madison as well as New Wave Entertainment, Lunch Bag Snail Productions and Universal Television in association with Sony Pictures Television.
COVER STORY: Chelsea Handler's Split Personality
Though Colonna appears regularly on Chelsea Handler's late-night show and spin-off on sister network E!, Life As I Blow It would mark her first star vehcile if ultimately picked up to series. It would also join Handler's adaptation Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea on NBC's schedule.
"Part of what we need to do at NBC is to get people to know that we're doing things different and a little more in-your-face," the network's entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt told THR of Handler's project last spring. One assumes Colonna's effort would fit the same bill -- and like Handler's, Colonna's offers cross-promotional opportunities, appealing for Comcast executives looking to embrace corporate synergy.
Colonna, whose other small screen credits have included Last Comic Standing, Monk and Scare Tactics, is repped by APA, New Wave Entertainment and Cohen Gardner.
