NBCUniversal's Versus Gets First-Ever NFL Program 'NFL Turning Point'
The cable channel, which will be renamed NBC Sports Network in January, will debut the weekly show on Sept. 15.
NEW YORK - NBCUniversal sports cable channel Versus said Monday that it is getting its first-ever NFL program next month.
The weekly NFL Turning Point will debut on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 10pm and air during the NFL regular season. As of Nov. 10, when Thursday night NFL games begin airing on the NFL Network, new episodes will come to Versus at midnight ET.
NBC Sports Group has teamed up with NFL Films for the series, which will cover the turning points of two NFL games every week. It will often include games featuring teams that are playing against each other the upcoming week on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, providing additional promotion for the broadcast, the partners said.
“NFL Turning Point is symbolic of the high-quality, relevant programming viewers will see more of on our national, all-sports cable platform,” said Mark Lazarus, chairman, NBC Sports Group. “It unites two of sports’ premier storytellers in NBC Sports and NFL Films to bring viewers a new perspective on the game.”
Said NFL Films president Steve Sabol: “Showcasing the sounds and images of the game, from the smallest detail to the big picture has been our strength for nearly 50 years. We are thrilled to get an opportunity to produce that type of show with a new partner in Versus.”
