Netflix Canada Strikes Deal With Paramount Pictures

TORONTO – Netflix has struck a deal with Paramount Pictures to stream itslibrary in Canada.

The multi-year licensing agreement brings new movie and TV titles to Netflix Canada subscribers, including the exclusive subscription TV rights to all first-run films, for viewing on computers and TV sets.

Titles in the Paramount Pictures package include The Last Airbender and Marvel's Iron Man 2, which will launch here March 25.

The five-year agreement covers around 350 new movies available now from Netflix in Canada, including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Titanic, Zoolander and Wayne's World.

Netflix launched a pure streaming service in Canada in September, and has since been adding to its programming lineup to satisfy subscribers.

"This agreement will allow them (subscribers) to watch some of the latest hit Paramount films as well as an incredible range of the studio's recent and classic favorites anytime they want,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer.

We are extremely pleased to have concluded this deal with Netflix for the premium pay television window in Canada, offering some of Paramount's best films to their rapidly growing Canadian subscriber base,” added Hal Richardson, president of Paramount Television and Digital Distribution.
