Netflix to Launch Streaming Service in Italy and Portugal
The company is already in 50 countries.
Netflix, which intends on being a global company by the end of next year, will launch its streaming service in Italy and Portugal in October, the company said Monday.
At launch, the service will include original series like Marvel's Daredevil, Marco Polo and Bloodline as well as stand-up comedy specials and the docuseries Chef's Table. New titles will be added periodically, including yet-to-debut shows like Club de Cuervos, a comedy about a professional soccer team, and Narcos, about an illegal drug cartel.
Content will be localized accordingly with either subtitles or dubbing.
Netflix is already in more than 50 countries, most recently launching in Australia and New Zealand.
At the end of the first quarter, Netflix had 19.3 million international subscribers who pay for its streaming service, up from 11.8 million a year earlier. It doesn't offer its DVD service internationally. The company has 40.3 million paying streaming subscribers in the U.S.
