New captain digital at Marvel

Marvel Entertainment on Tuesday named Ira Rubenstein to the newly created role of executive vp of its recently launched global digital media group.

Rubenstein will oversee Marvel's distribution strategy across all media and platforms. The company's digital extensions include Marvel.com, MarvelKids.com and Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited. He reports to John Turitzin, executive vp, office of the chief executive.

Rubenstein comes to Marvel after 12 years at Sony. He most recently was executive vp at Sony Pictures Digital, where he oversaw the digital and mobile extensions of the conglomerate's TV and film properties. He also helped establish the studios' on-demand movie service Movielink.

Before Sony Pictures Digital was established, Rubenstein was vp marketing at Columbia TriStar Interactive, where he was responsible for promotions and advertising on more than 100 film sites.

Rubenstein also was manager of film research and new media at 20th Century Fox.
