New Form Releases New Batch of Scripted Pilots (Exclusive)
YouTube stars Arden Rose, Jonah Green and Alexa Losey all have projects as part of this latest incubator program.
New Form Digital is continuing its work with up-and-coming online creators through its latest batch of pilot projects.
The digital studio has released the videos on YouTube as the latest round of its incubator series, which helps digital stars develop ideas from conception to web series. Past projects have included Mr. Student Body President, which currently streams on Verizon's go90 and YouTube Red's Single by 30. New Form also recently sold animated sci-fi series Final Space to TBS.
This new batch of pilots includes a heavy dose of sci-fi, superheroes and fantasy.
"Our goal is to tell great stories and provide some of the world's most original, emerging creators an opportunity to share something completely new and exciting with their audience," said Melissa Schneider, who serves as New Form's executive vp originals and development, adding that these pilots were chosen "because they have the right combination of originality, audience scale, creative vision and a passion for storytelling."
New Form, founded in 2014 as a joint venture between Discovery, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, in December added $18 million in funding from Discovery and ITV.
Here are New Form's nine new pilots, announced in Miami during NATPE:
American Airness (created by Sam Miller, starring Olan Rogers)
An underemployed, overzealous 20-something competes in his first local air guitar competition, dragging his unamused big sister along with him. The newest challenger in an underground sport filled with colorful characters and killer riffs, he enters a world where anyone can become a god of rock. The only thing standing in his way is his idol turned nemesis. Will he crash and burn or unleash his inner beast?
Chris and Mitchell Make a Show (starring Mitchell Davis and Chris Kendall)
YouTube OGs Chris Kendall and Mitchell Davis take on the enormous task of creating a new kind of talk show for the Internet: no studio, no audience, no scripts — just a bit of Casey Neistat mixed with The Larry Sanders Show. On their quest, these besties will experience the ups and downs of friendship, but still may never get it together to actually make their show! By trying to accomplish the impossible in Hollywood, these two lovable idiots will give you all the things you love about a talk show without the talk show: celebrity guests, ancillary content and cross- platform integration.
Fallen for You (created by and starring Ashley Skidmore and Brennan Lee Mulligan)
Ashley Bailey hits rock bottom when her memoir is stolen, forcing her to lose her job. With no hope and a bottle of vodka taped to her hand, her guardian angel Todd steps in — literally. Except nobody tells Ashley you're not supposed to hook up with your guardian angel. Todd loses his wings and gets marooned on Earth, where together he and Ashley will discover the secret underbelly of fallen angels and hidden demons.
Hero (created by and starring Dom Fera)
Faced with his first real supervillain, an invincible superhero returns to his childhood home defeated—and is forced to reckon with his fear, his identity, and the people he hurt along the way.
Immortals (created by and starring Alexa Losey, and Melvin Gregg)
Despite being forever stuck at age 19, Riley has lived for over a century, her immortality as much of a gift as it is a curse. She yearns to escape her isolation and loneliness for a simple life, but discovers that she is part of a long lineage of Immortals who have lied to her about her origin and importance. Now hunted by her own, Riley will abandon everything she has ever known and set in motion a chain of events that will threaten their very existence.
Max the Murder Cat (created by Mary Doodles, starring Arden Rose)
Anne just rescued a cute, cuddly, serial-killing cat named Max. Although he is probably responsible for the disappearances of his previous owners, Anne is different in his eyes. Max ends up becoming incredibly fond, even possessive, of her and his killer instincts turn toward those who threaten their bond.
North of Neon (created by Matt Stawski, starring Meg Delacy and Gabriel Conte)
This fantasy adventure is about siblings Coin, Eido and Mars who are caught in the midst of the Great Dragon War. The trio must go on a quest to find their warrior father while fending off local outlaws to protect their prized baby, Ghost Dragon.
Playground (created by Bertie Gilbert, starring Chris Kendall)
Ezra finds himself dealing with the loss of his younger brother Peter in the most fantastical way. On his way to the funeral service, Ezra is captured by a group of children after crash landing in a magical forest. The spirited group holds him captive until he fixes their rocket ship. In the process of helping them, Ezra learns to let go, confront burdens from his past and figure out a way to move forward.
The Win (created by and starring Jonah Green)
Five college misfits, led by the inscrutable Riley, game the California lottery and win $4 million. But when Riley's absent father shows up and blackmails the gang for what they have done, they find themselves facing an agonizing decision…at least, that’s how things appear. Because for Riley, winning the lottery was only half the con.
