'New Girl's' Zooey Deschanel on Golden Globe Noms: 'There Was a Lot of Nerdy Love'
A still groggy Zooey Deshcanel admits she had contemplated quitting the acting business altogether only a year earlier.
"It's rare that you find really great parts," says the New Girl star as she navigates her way through Los Angeles traffic Thursday to the gig she claims changed that.
"This is the best job I’ve ever had," she adds of Fox's freshman comedy that was showered with Golden Globe attention earlier this morning. Not only was the top-rated series nominated for a best comedy Globe, but Deschanel was granted a best actress nomination in the comedy category.
Grasping for descriptors for the current swell of emotions, the actress settles on "thrilling." To be fair, the actress hasn't had much time to process the news. She claims she slept through her alarm, waking up at 6:30 AM to 20 missed calls. But by 7, she had already connected with both her long-time manager and her showrunner, Liz Meriwether. "We’re both like big nerds, so there was a lot of nerdy love," she says of the exchange.
"I just can't believe it," she says of the award show whirlwind, which began earlier this month when Dechanel was nominated for a "best song written for visual media" Grammy for her work with the Winnie the Pooh soundtack. "I was writing music so long for in the my room... its so great to see my work come to fruition."
