New Kids on the Block, Aerosmith, Dane Cook to Perform at 'Boston Strong'
Homegrown artists including New Kids on the Block, Aerosmith, James Taylor and Dane Cook will head back to Boston this month for Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
The May 30 event will also feature performances from Jason Aldean, Boston, Jimmy Buffett, Extreme, Godsmack, The J. Geils Band, Carole King and Steven Wright. Additional artists will be announced.
“Like so many other proud Bostonians who have been extremely generous, we are honored to step up and do our part to help the victims and their families,”said NKOTB’s Donnie Wahlberg. “Hopefully this event will not only raise money, but spirits as well.”
Tickets for the TD Garden and Live Nation show go on sale Monday, May 6, at 10 a.m. Proceeds will support The One Fund Boston, which was founded by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to aid the people “most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15,” states a press release. Tickets range in price from $35 to $285.
“The One Fund event at the Garden this May 30th is destined to be a true Boston landmark,” said Taylor. “From the promoters to the sound and lights, to the performers and the Garden staff; everyone involved has responded from the heart in a spontaneous and simultaneous desire to be there, and to do what we can for the city we love. I am honored to be a part of it, and… I can’t wait.”
The music industry has been actively involved in fund-raising initiatives in support of the tragedy. Neil Diamond recently announced that he would donate royalties of “Sweet Caroline,”which has been played at every Boston Red Sox game for more than a decade, to One Fund. In the week following the tragedy, sales of “Sweet Caroline” were up 597 percent. The Dropkick Murphys raised a six-figure sum for the cause, while Kenny Chesney also launched a fun of his own called Spread the Love to benefit the Boston Medical Center.
