Hot New Restaurant -- RivaBella

THR’s pick of the week for industry dining sees bright-and-light SoCal Italian at a historic Sunset Strip address.
RivaBella

The Quick Pitch: The partners behind Innovative Dining Group – who have Sushi Roku and, just across the street, equally slick steakhouse Boa – teamed with one of L.A.’s most seasoned chefs, Gino Angelini (his resume includes stints at Rex and Vincenti), bringing the SoCal sensibility of his own 12-year-old mid-city Angelini Osteria to this grand indoor-outdoor tableau on the Sunset Strip. Angelini’s take on Italian is reliably bright and light, from roasted octopus salad with salsa verde to tagliolini pasta sprinkled with lemon zest.

The Insider’s Dish: RivaBella’s address was previously home to the industry-beloved Hamburger Hamlet. A favorite of Dean Martin’s, it opened in 1950 and shuttered in late 2011.

The Must-Order Item: A delicate lasagna nestled under a foliage of flash-fried spinach leaves.

The Industry Neighbors: Abrams Artist Agency, Mosaic management and Atlas Entertainment.
