New Oz film agency gets temp CEO

SYDNEY -- Lyn Maddock has been appointed interim CEO of the new film support agency Screen Australia, temporarily seconding the deputy chair of broadcast regulator the Australian Communications and Media Authority, arts minister Peter Garrett announced Tuesday.

As interim CEO Maddock will manage the merger into Screen Australia of the Australian Film Commission, the Film Finance Corp. and Film Australia, and be in charge of the new body's decision making until it appointments a board of directors and a permanent CEO.

Geoff Brown, director of key industry group, the Screen Producers Association of Australia said Maddocks’ appointment was critical and would also help minimize any uncertainty and industry hiatus at a time of "massive change."

"Lyn is consultative, knows the industry and understands the complexity of the issues and challenges our sector is facing. Her wealth of public policy knowledge and corporate history is a great asset for Screen Australia," Brown said.

Legislation formalizing the set up of the new agency passed through parliament last week. Maddock’s secondment from ACMA will conclude on July 31.
