New Photo of Sinead O'Connor Fuels Online Surprise

The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer is unrecognizable while performing at an Irish music festival over the weekend.
A new image featuring an unrecognizable Sinead O'Connor took the Internet by surprise Monday.
The photo, first posted by People.com, shows the singer sporting a much different look than in her early 1990s heyday.
While performing as a backup singer at a summer music festival in Ireland over the weekend, a noticeably heftier O'Connor donned a belly-baring tank top along with a black hairstyle featuring choppy bangs.
It's quite a different look from her "Nothing Compares 2 U" days, during which the then-trim singer sported a shaved head.

Several tweeters took to the social networking site to share their surprise over her new look.
"Is this really Sinead O'Connor? I honestly can't tell it's the same person," wrote actress Candace Cameron Bure.
Added comedian Michael Rudolph Clos: "You see the pics of Sinead O'connor? She has slowly transformed into Grenade O'connor."
A tweeter named Dana chimed in: "Um, what happened to Sinead O'Connor? That outfit and hairstyle...what."
Added Crystal Ball: "If this is Sinead O'Connor, then the 90's must truly be dead. She's nearly unrecognizable!"
And J.J. Kotarski wrote: "Dear G-d, what have you done to Sinead O'Connor?"
O'Connor broke out with her album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got in 1990, featuring a cover of "Nothing" originally recorded by Prince's side project The Family. It earned her a Grammy for best alternative music performance.
In 1992, she generated headlines after infamously reipping up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live to protest sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church.
O'Connor, who is on tour in Europe, was singing backup for reggae artist Natty Wailer at the Bray Seaside Festival. She released her most recent album, Throw Down Your Arms, in 2005.
