New 'Twilight' Blu-Ray/DVD Debut Up On 'Breaking Dawn - Part 1' Release
The Summit Entertainment tentpole release now moves to digital and on-demand platforms after grossing $829 million at the worldwide box office.
TORONTO - Lionsgate on Tuesday reported The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 2 sold an estimated 3.85 million DVD and Blu-ray units in its home-entertainment launch this past weekend.
That’s up on volume for Summit Entertainment’s debut weekend for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 on Valentine’s Day in 2012.
Lionsgate, which acquired Summit in January 2012, added Blue-ray sales accounted for more of the combined home-entertainment mix this weekend for the teen franchise.
And the indie studio said the opening-weekend estimates from March 2 for Breaking Dawn – Part 2 bode well for the release on digital and on-demand platforms.
"Consumer demand for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 reflects strength in all segments of the home entertainment marketplace – packaged media, digital and on demand,” Lionsgate executive vp and general manager of home entertainment Ron Schwartz said in a statement.
Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has grossed a franchise best of $829 million at the worldwide box office, bringing the Twilight Saga’s overall worldwide box office to more than $3.3 billion.
