NYFW Gorgeousness: Hair Gets Flat, Lips Get Orange

Now trending -- Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung and DKNY are among those showing slick hair and orange lips for spring.

We saw it at Rag & Bone on Friday. We saw it again Saturday at Prabal Gurung. Then Donna Karan got in on the look at her DKNY 25th anniversary show on Sunday. Thrice viewed during NYFW, a trend doth make!

While we've noticed that as clothes get more intricate, embroidered, more colorful and certainly shown more and more in unique prints and color combos – hair gets more undone. Ponytails and long, messy unbrushed hair have been the look for a while in both L.A. and N.Y. Not to mention that for the last couple of seasons, lips have been muted and nude.

But for spring, it seems hair is a bit more polished and lips are getting an electric orange glow.

ORANGE CRUSH: Model Karlie Kloss and her fellow bevy of beauties in bright orange lips (and she in a killer slip dress to match) at DKNY's 25th anniversary show on Sunday.

At Prabal Gurung, makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury used MAC to complement Gurung's striking neon-pastels with -- among other highly pigmented, almost powdery neons -- a super saturated orange, while at Rag & Bone Revlon artist Gucci Westman kept things in the Cheetos color family, too. And at DKNY on Sunday, orange again made a major runway showing with the likes of Karlie Kloss and Chanel Iman rocking a Tilbury-made mix of Maybelline ColorSensation lipcolors in Electric Orange and Neon Red to compliment Karan's cute, city date-appropriate clothes.

The key to successfully pulling off the look, it seems, is to keep the rest of the face fairly bare so the lips jump off the face like oranges poking out of a tall tree.

As for the hair, break out your brush and throw away your shampoo. Styles for spring seem to be erring toward polished with sheen in that Rag & Bone and Prabal both showed slick-top, polished hair styles that appeared rather 1920's-like, with a futuristic spin. So let your blow out go a few days longer -- good news for all of us lamenting Dry Bar's $5 Los Angeles-area price increase, anyway.
