Newport film fest to spotlight MoMA series
Donation will be made to movie preservation programThe Newport International Film Festival, which runs from June 3-7 in Newport, R.I., has entered into a partnership with the Museum of Modern Art, spotlighting MoMA's annual screening series "To Save and Project: The MoMA International Festival of Film Preservation."
The winner of the Claiborne Pell Tribute Award at the 2009 fest will be presented with a $10,000 contribution in his or her name to be given to MoMA for its film preservation program. The honoree, in consultation with NIFF and MoMA, will take part in choosing which film the museum will preserve.
June's fest also will feature films drawn from the past six years of "To Save and Project," selected by Joshua Siegel, associate curator, and Anne Morra, assistant curator of the MoMA film department.
