Familiar face atop HFPA

Jorge Camara has been elected president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. for 2007-08 at the organization's annual election meeting. It will be Camara's fifth term in the president's seat. He replaces outgoing president Philip Berk. A journalist who covers Hollywood for print and television outlets in Mexico and Latin America, Camara has been a member of the association for 42 years. Mike Goodridge was elected vp during the meeting Tuesday, and Serge Rakhlin and Meher Tatna were elected executive secretary and treasurer, respectively. The new board of directors comprises Mahfouz Doss (chairman), Armando Gallo, Anke Hofmann, Erkki Kanto, Paz Mata and Frances Schoenberger (alternate).



Napoli promoted at Col TriStar

Stefanie Napoli has been upped to executive vp media at the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. The seven-year veteran of the studio will continue to manage all media planning and buying for Columbia, Screen Gems and TriStar theatrical releases. In addition, she will handle theatrical marketing integration and promotions with media outlets, including network, cable and local television properties. Napoli's recent work included projects with "Spider-Man 3," "The Da Vinci Code" and "Memoirs of a Geisha."



ABC News adds digital execs

NEW YORK — ABC News has named two executives to senior posts at its digital services ABC News Now and ABCNews.com. Jessica Stedman Guff has become executive producer of ABC News Now, the network's 24-hour digital news network that is available via digital cable, the Web and wireless, and Chris Sheridan has been named executive producer of ABCNews.com. Michael Clemente is senior executive producer of ABC News Digital Media and will work on strategic planning for the digital media unit as well as on other projects, including "i-Caught," an ABC newsmagazine set to debut in the summer.



MTV Scoop: 'Wife' hosts land deal

Radio personality Fatman Scoop scored a multifaceted deal with MTV based on an Internet video program he stars in with his wife. Scoop, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, will get a TV development/ DVD/first-look book deal from MTV along with his wife, Shanda. "Man and Wife," which recently reached the 3 million viewer mark, gives a voyeuristic view of the relationship between the married couple and features them discussing sex, money and politics.



NHL boards clip service at Sling

NEW YORK — The NHL has signed on to Clip + Sling, Sling Media's soon-to-be-released technology that allows users to share TV segments online. The NHL has agreed to give Sling users the right to "clip" game footage and send it to online communities via Sling's software. It's the first time a sports league has signed with Sling, which has a pact with CBS.



Lau to direct film sales at Strand

Kevin Lau has joined Strand Releasing as director of theatrical sales, replacing Gail Blumenthal. He will work with Strand co-presidents Jon Gerrans and Marcus Hu overseeing the release of such upcoming films as Aki Kaurismaki's "Lights in the Dusk," Andre Techine's "The Witnesses" and Eytan Fox's "The Bubble." Lau was coordinator of theatrical distribution and marketing at Tartan Films USA.
