'Newsroom's' Thomas Sadoski in Talks to Star With Reese Witherspoon in 'Wild' (Exclusive)
The drama is next for Jean-Marc Vallee, the French-Canadian director who is generating major buzz for "Dallas Buyers Club."
Thomas Sadoski, one of the breakouts from HBO’s The Newsroom, is in negotiations to join Reese Witherspoon in Wild, Jean-Marc Vallee’s follow-up to awards contender Dallas Buyers Club, hot off the Toronto Film Festival.
Witherspoon is starring and producing the drama with River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad and Bruna Papandrea, Witherspoon’s partner at their Pacific Standard shingle.
Wild centers on a young woman, who, to absolve herself of the sins of her tragic part and seeking a new start, hikes a thousand miles of the Pacific Coast Trail. It is based on the book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, written by Cheryl Strayed and published by Knopf on March 20, 2012.
The film has been described tonally to be in the vein of Into the Wild, the Sean Penn-directed drama that stared Emile Hirsch.
Sadoski will play the movie’s male lead, the woman’s ex-husband who cares for her despite her infidelities.
The movie is eyeing a fall shoot.
Sadoski, who has made a name for himself in the stage world, has made a few indies and several TV appearances, including Law & Order: SVU and Ugly Betty. Wild will be Sadoski’s highest profile feature yet since Newsroom, the Aaron Sorkin series in which he plays Don Keefer, the producer of the news show who romanced Alison Pill’s character.
He is repped by UTA and Industry Entertainment.
