Next Gen 2015: Who Is Your Acting Role Model?
'Straight Outta Compton' star Jason Mitchell and 'Survivor's Remorse' actor Jessie T. Usher are both influenced by Will Smith (Usher religiously studies 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air').
As part of THR's look at Hollywood's Next Gen 2015, we asked the breakout stars of tomorrow about their acting role models.
Carey Mulligan. She’s done an awful, awful lot, and the roles she’s taken are absolutely incredible. And her life is private.
Patrick Swayze, in that he didn't just have looks and talent but the undefinable something that made him a once-in-a-lifetime force of a human being onscreen. He was captivating and commanded all of your attention even if he was just standing motionless and silent.
I would have to go either with Will Smith or Vincent D'Onofrio. Will has had a great career. He’s the kind of person I would like to be remembered as — an all-around good person and somebody who tries to bring it to every film.
Jake Gyllenhaal. I just haven't seen a film that Jake has been bad in. He makes clever and creative choices. He's someone I want to work with in the future.
Jessie T. Usher
Will Smith. He's been my career idol for years and years. I used to sit back and watch and study Fresh Prince of Bel-Air over and over. It's the only TV show that I've watched all the way through maybe five times.
The first thing that comes to mind is Tom Hanks. I don't think there's a classier guy out there. He's one of the best actors to grace the screen — and one of the most dignified. I see the way he interacts with his fans, how much of a family man he is and how he's nurtured actors, myself included. It's something I try to emulate.
