NFL Now App Added to Apple TV
Weeks before the season begins, Apple TV users have another way to follow their favorite team
Apple TV users can now gear up for the start of the NFL season, and follow their favorite teams during it, with the NFL Now app.
Launched two weeks ago to coincide with the first week of preseason games, the app provides free access to game highlights, press conferences and original content — everything except live games, which you can still only watch on TV.
Still, the app is designed to provide a personalized experience based on the user’s favorite teams, players and fantasy rosters.
With a $1.99/month premium subscription, NFL Now Plus users can also access instant in-game highlights and NFL Films shows and videos. The free version also includes ads from presenting sponsors Verizon, Gillette, McDonald’s and Nationwide.
NFL Now was initially available on smartphones, tablets, PCs, Microsoft Xbox and Roku, with additional platforms, including Amazon devices and Yahoo applications expected to be added by the 2014 season opener on Sept. 4.
The app is the NFL’s attempt to provide a “second screen” experience for viewers and tap into the lucrative fantasy football market, both areas which have been dominated by outside companies like Yahoo and ESPN.
