NFP buys Rapace latest form TrustNordisk
Pernilla August's drama 'Beyond,' set in 1970s Sweden
COLOGNE, Germany -- NFP has picked up German rights to Pernilla August's "Beyond," a drama featuring "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star Noomi Rapace, from TrustNordisk Film.
NFP handled the German release of "Girl" and its two sequels: "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest."
NFP is counting on Rapace's star power to open "Beyond" in Germany, even though the film -- a story of abuse and alcoholism set in 1970s Sweden -- lacks the built-in marketing of the "Girl" trilogy, which were based on the international best-sellers by Stieg Larsson.
TrustNordisk has closed multiple territories on "Beyond," selling to Sacher in Italy, Rialto Film in Australia, Lumiere for Benelux and New Cinema for Israel since the film's debut in Venice earlier this year.
Critics loved the film but Rapace -- whose breakout performance as Lisbeth Salander in "Girl" has made her one of Hollywood's hottest properties -- has to be considered the title's major selling point.
Rapace is currently shooting alongside Robert Downey Jr. as the female lead Guy Ritchie's sequel to his "Sherlock Holmes" reboot.
