NHL's Stanley Cup Gets 'Inside the Actors Studio' Treatment (Video)
James Lipton interviews avid hockey fan Michael J. Fox over the revered trophy in New York City last week.
The National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup has lived to tell many Hollywood tales over the years, but on Friday in New York City, it got the full James Lipton treatment.
Lipton, a New York Rangers fan through-and-through, paid a visit to the NHL Powered by Reebok store in New York to conduct one of his signature Inside the Actors Studio interviews alongside Michael J. Fox, where the two talked hockey over the esteemed trophy.
Among the topics discussed were Fox’s preferred team and hockey-related memories, including the time he hit the ice with the legendary Bobby Orr at the Boston Garden.
Admiring the Cup, which last year went to the Los Angeles Kings, Fox muses, “This trophy is so esteemed and valued and revered. I don’t know why -- it’s an inanimate object, but it has a life of its own.”
Later that night, Lipton hosted the Cup and its keeper, Hockey Hall of Fame curator Phil Pritchard, at his private Upper East Side home. Actor Mike Myers (a Toronto Maple Leafs fan), model Carol Alt and former Canadian ambassador to Iran, Ken Taylor, and his wife, Pat Taylor (both of whom are depicted in Ben Affleck’s Argo), were all on hand for the small soiree. Said Lipton after the event: “Thank you for one of the greatest experiences of my life.”
