Nick Wernham to Direct Afterlife Comedy 'The Death and Life of Martin Quick' (Exclusive)
Jai Khanna will executive produce for Brillstein.
Brillstein, Innis Lake Entertainment and Know Rules Media will produce The Death and Life of Martin Quick, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The afterlife comedy will be helmed by Nick Wernham, whose feature debut No Stranger Than Love, starring Alison Brie, Colin Hanks and Justin Chatwin, closed the Newport Beach Film Festival on April 30.
Martin Quick, written by Wernham’s father, Richard Wernham, tells the story of a reviled movie producer who is murdered. When he learns that his earthly body still has “life” left in it, he struggles through the bureaucratic mess of the afterlife in search of a loophole to return his soul.
“I look forward to creating a rich, visual world for the afterlife,” Nick Wernham said in a statement. “From the vast sea of functional workstations that fills the Guardian Angels’ Office to the sinister depths of the underground parking garages and subway lines that make up Hell, the film will depict an afterlife that is steeped in reality but nonetheless surprising and bizarre.”
Jai Khanna will executive produce for Brillstein, which is reuniting with Know Rules on the heels of their collaboration on the crime thriller Hacker, which is currently being sold by Electric Entertainment. Know Rules’ Sanzhar Sultanov will produce Martin Quick, which is currently casting in advance of a planned fall shoot in Toronto.
