Indian film star and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra will receive the Nielsen Box Office Award for outstanding contribution to Asian film.

The award will be presented by The Hollywood Reporter on Monday during the third annual Asian Film Awards as part of the events during the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival.

"Priyanka Chopra is India's No. 1 female star. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding work since she began acting just a few years ago," THR publisher Eric Mika said. "It is amazing to acknowledge the breadth of her success, and we are honored to bestow the Nielsen Box Office Award on one who has done so incredibly much in so little time."

Chopra made her acting debut in the Hindi film industry in the 2002 film "Andaaz," a role that won her a best female debut nod from India's film awards, Filmfare, in 2003. She followed that with an unconventional part in "Aitraaz," an offbeat role that garnered her recognition as best female villain at the 2004 Filmfare.

In 2008, Chopra appeared in six back-to-back releases, including two of Bollywood's biggest hits, "Dostana" and "Fashion." Her star turn in the latter won her Filmfare's best actress award.

Chopra is the second recipient of the Nielsen Box Office Award, joining actor Andy Lau, who received the honor at the 2007 ceremony.

The Asian Film Awards will be recorded at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center in front of a live audience and telecast on Hong Kong's TVB to 30 million households and on Star World, which beams to 79 million homes. (partialdiff)
