Nikki Finke Signs Book Deal
Nikki Finke has a book coming out, a Simon & Schuster spokesman confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Its subject will be — what else? — Hollywood.
Little else is known about the specifics of the project. Simon & Schuster wouldn't comment on the contents or offer a publication date.
Simon & Schuster president Jonathan Karp told The New York Times that he would edit the book. He told the paper, "The book will be an event."
Finke was represented by Alice Martell of The Martell Agency on the deal.
Finke has started writing a book on Hollywood before without bringing it to publication. A 2009 New Yorker profile of Finke reported that she began a book about agents called Pay or Play in 1990 (at the behest of Random House) and it "grew into a kind of agent's-eye history of Hollywood since 1975."
According to The New Yorker, the manuscript passed through five different publishing houses before being canceled for good in 2006.
Finke, famous for her "TOLDJA!" headlines and abrasive manner, started Deadline in 2006 and sold it to Penske Media in 2009. Penske's acquisition of Variety in 2009 created a rift between Finke and her bosses, and she departed in 2013.
Recently, she started a new site, Nikkifinke.com, but has stopped posting as she works out a settlement with Penske over her departure.
The famously reclusive Finke — almost no known pictures of her exist — was recently outed by Nikkistink.com. The parody site published numerous photos of her but then took them down a day later.
