No progress in CBS-WGAE talks

Representatives of the WGA East and CBS met Monday for the first time since guild membership rejected the network's offer of a new contract for 450 newswriters and others, but no progress was reported. CBS last offered a 12% wage hike for TV and network radio employees and 8% for those in local radio, and the WGAE continued to object to such a "two-tier" arrangement. The guild, which has been without a CBS newswriters contract since April 1, 2005, offered to negotiate for a slightly longer new contract than previously discussed and also suggested a counterproposal to certain supervisory rule changes proposed by CBS, a guild spokeswoman said.
