Noomi Rapace Nominated for Second Swedish Oscar for 'Beyond'
The actress won a Guldbagge (Golden Beatle) for her star-making turn in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."
BERLIN -- Noomi Rapace, Swedish star of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has been nominated for the local version of the Oscar, the Guldbagge, for her performance in Beyond from actress-turned-director Pernilla August.
Rapace plays the adult survivor of an alcoholic father in the drama, which picked up seven more Guldbagge noms, including one for best film, director and screenplay.
Rapace, who will play a gypsy in Guy Ritchie’s sequel to his Sherlock Holmes reboot, won a Guldbagge (Golden Beatle) in 2009 for her star-making role as goth hacker Lisbeth Salander in Girl.
August will be going head-to-head against Rapace in the best actress race, having received a separate Guldbagge nom for her turn in the Hakon Liu-directed drama Miss Kicki.
Also in the running for this year’s Guldbagges is the comedy Simple Simon, which stars Bill Skarsgard, son of Stellan Skarsgard and younger brother of True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard as a man with Asperger Syndrome who tries to find his (normal) older brother a new girlfriend.
Simple Simon picked up four noms, including one for Skarsgard in the best actor category.
The third contender for best Swedish film this year is Sebbe from first-timer Babak Najafi, which won the prize for best debut feature at the Berlin Film Festival last year.
In the foreign language category, David Fincher’s Oscar-favourite The Social Network will compete with Andrea Arnold’s kitchen sink drama Fish Tank and Jessica Hausner’s faith-questioning feature Lourdes.
The Swedish Film Institute will announced the winners of the 2011 Guldbagge Awards in Stockholm on Jan.24.
