Norway Tragedy to Become Discovery Special

The one-hour program is scheduled to air across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region starting in August.
NEW YORK - Discovery Communications' Discovery Networks International said Monday that it has commissioned ITN Productions to produce a one-hour news documentary about the Friday bombing and shooting spree in Norway.
The special, called "Norway Massacre: The Killer's Mind," will air on Discovery Channel across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region beginning in August. The company didn't immediately mention the U.S. as a market where the program will air.
The program will examine the mind and motives of Anders Breivig who is suspected of having killed 76 people, according to latest estimates, on Friday in Oslo and Utoya, the company said. The special will also explore the rise of the far right in Norway and Europe.
“Discovery has an office in Oslo and understands the extreme gravity of this situation and how it has affected all Norwegians,” said Luis Silberwasser, executive vp and chief content officer of DNI. “The whole world is still in shock by the appalling tragedy that took place last week. This documentary special will explore the motivations that led to such a tragic loss of life and present the facts around the activities that left a nation in mourning.”
CBS, NBC and ABC did not break into their regularly scheduled programming to cover the situation in Norway.
