NRA Press Conference: Hollywood Reacts
#NRA became a trending United States topic on Twitter and many in the industry responded to the presser on the social media service.
On Friday -- one week after the deadly shooting at a Connecticut elementary school that left 20 children dead -- the National Rifle Association held its first press conference since the tragedy. Executive vice president Wayne LaPierre stated that media and Hollywood depictions of violence played a role in a culture of violence.
STORY: NRA Blames Videogames, Movies, Media for Gun Violence
The presser generated tremendous reaction on Twitter, where #NRA became a trending topic in the United States. Below are a sampling of industry reactions to the NRA's conference this morning, many of them disagreeing with the sentiment expressed by the organization:

An accurate national data base of the mentally ill would include people who think we need more assault rifles.

How about attaching a second gun to the gun you already have? And then a knife onto the second gun, with a gun on that knife? #iamsmart

Canadian kids watch same violent movies & play same violent video games. In their 10M households r 7M guns. Why don't they kill like we do?

Maybe we could just buy Santa's naughty/nice database to see who can have guns.

Really, NRA members, take a hard look at who's representing you. I now return you to your regular programming.

This is your moment, America: The #NRA has 4 million members, your population is 311 million. Don't stand for this murderous crap any more.

The #NRA prescription after #Newtown - "Armed security personnel in schools." This really is some kind of dystopian nightmare.

The NRA has rickrolled the whole country into watching just another standard Wayne LaPierre stump speech saying we need more guns.
— Rachel Maddow MSNBC (@maddow) December 21, 2012
All joking aside we may have just seen the beginning of the end of the NRA as we know it. The old bullshit just isn't cutting it any more.

If you watched the NRA press conference and agree with this idiot, you should probably unfollow me now.

The world is still here and "NRA" has replaced "Mayans" as the top trending topic. And yet, I still kinda feel the Mayans were more honest.

I'm a gun owner, and this #NRA idea of an armed person in each school is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
