TCA: 'Nurse Jackie,' 'The Big C,' 'The Borgias' Premiere Dates Announced
The premium cable network is also looking to make an impact with filmmaker-helmed documentaries and confirmed that RJ Cutler is working on a doc about Dick Cheney.
Showtime will bow news seasons of Nurse Jackie, The Big C and The Borgias on Sunday, April 8 in what entertainment president David Nevins described as a “triple header.”
Nevins made the announcement during his executive session at winter TCA on Thursday morning. The series are part of a broader network makeover under Nevins, which also includes the just-wrapped Homeland and Don Cheadle starrer House of Lies, which premiered last Sunday, Jan. 8.
Nevins also said that he hopes to build up the network’s independent documentary slate and confirmed that RJ Cutler is working on a documentary about former Vice President Dick Cheney.
The World According to Dick Cheney will span Cheney's days as Gerald Ford's 34-year-old chief-of-staff to his reign as the most powerful VP yet.
Other documentaries in the works include Training Day director Antoine Fuqua’s feature-length documentary about former Death Row Records CEO Marion 'Suge' Knight and another centered on Richard Pryor from Marina Zenovich, who helmed the controversial Roman Polanski documentary Wanted and Desired.
Knight is cooperating with Fuqua, said Nevins. And the network is in the process of securing cooperation from Pryor's family.
“I feel like we can have real impact with documentaries,” said Nevins, adding that Showtime’s documentaries will be “driven by filmmakers.”
“I want he most interesting filmmakers,” he said. “I’m looking at how we can make programming that has impact.”
